How we collect, use, and protect your and your child's information

Cleveland Specialties ("Cleveland Specialties," "we," "us," or "our") operates the "Make a Job" youth business camp and this website, clevelandspecialties.org (the "Site"). This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, and the rights available to you and your child under the Data Protection Act, Chapter 22:04 of the Laws of Trinidad and Tobago ("the Act"). Because Make a Job serves participants aged 11–17, this policy pays particular attention to the protection of children's personal data.

1. Information We Collect

We collect personal information directly from you through the forms on this Site. We do not collect information through cookies, analytics, or other automated tracking technology.

a) Parent/Guardian Information

When you register your child for the camp or submit an evaluation on their behalf, we collect:

  • Parent/guardian full name
  • Parent/guardian email address
  • Parent/guardian phone number

b) Child's Information

As part of registration and program evaluation, we collect:

  • Child's full name
  • Child's gender
  • Child's allergies (health-related information, collected only to keep participants safe during camp activities)
  • Program selection and grade/form level
  • Current school name (optional)
  • Any additional information voluntarily provided in message or comment fields

We do not collect date of birth, home address, national ID, or financial information through our online forms, and the Site does not include any photo or file upload fields.

2. Children's Data & Parental Consent

Make a Job participants are between 11 and 17 years old. We recognize that children's personal data requires a higher standard of care under the Act. Before any child's information is collected or a child participates in camp activities, we obtain verifiable consent from a parent or legal guardian, given via a signed registration/consent process at the point of enrollment. This consent covers the collection of the information described above, as well as the photography described in Section 3.

A parent or guardian may, at any time:

  • Request a copy of the personal data we hold about their child
  • Request that inaccurate information be corrected
  • Withdraw consent and request that their child's personal data be deleted, subject to any records we are legally required to retain

To make any of these requests, see Section 9 (Your Rights) and Section 12 (Contact Us) below. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from a child without accompanying parent/guardian involvement in the registration process.

3. Photos & Media (Camp Gallery)

Photographs are taken during camp activities and may be used in the Site's photo gallery, in future promotional or marketing materials, and on our social media channels to showcase the Make a Job program. Gallery photos are captioned by activity (for example, "Participants learning business etiquette") and do not identify participants by name.

This use of photographs is covered by the same parent/guardian consent obtained at registration (see Section 2). If a parent or guardian would like a specific photo of their child removed from the Site or from future promotional use, please contact us using the details in Section 12 and we will act on the request promptly.

4. How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Process and manage camp registrations
  • Communicate with parents/guardians about camp logistics, schedules, and updates
  • Ensure participant safety during camp activities (for example, accounting for allergies)
  • Collect and review camp evaluations to improve the program
  • Showcase camp activities through photographs, as described in Section 3

We do not use personal contact information (names, emails, phone numbers) for marketing or promotional purposes.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share personal data with third parties for their own marketing purposes. Form submissions on this Site are processed using SmartForms, a form-processing service that acts solely as a data processor on our behalf to deliver submitted information to Cleveland Specialties. Your information is not shared with any other third party.

6. Data Retention

We retain personal data only for as long as necessary to administer the Make a Job program, respond to inquiries, and meet any legal or record-keeping obligations. When information is no longer needed for these purposes, we take reasonable steps to securely delete or de-identify it.

7. Data Security

We take reasonable administrative and technical measures to protect personal information, including a child's information, from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. While no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, we work to safeguard the data entrusted to us.

8. Cookies & Tracking

This Site does not currently use tracking cookies, analytics services, or advertising pixels. If this changes in the future, we will update this Privacy Policy to describe what is collected and how it is used.

9. Your Rights Under the Data Protection Act

Under Trinidad and Tobago's Data Protection Act, you (or, for a child's data, their parent/guardian) have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you or your child
  • Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Request deletion of personal data, subject to any legal retention requirements
  • Withdraw previously given consent
  • Lodge a complaint with the Office of the Information Commissioner of Trinidad and Tobago

This Site may contain links to third-party websites (such as social media pages). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those external sites and encourage you to review their privacy policies separately.
